Reagan’s Back to School Wash Day Routine

As a mom, I know that hair day can sometimes feel like a marathon—tears, tangles, and all. I’ve been there. When my daughter Reagan was younger, I struggled to find products that worked for her fine, curly hair without irritating her sensitive, eczema-prone skin. Everything I tried either left her scalp dry and itchy or made her curls brittle and unmanageable.

Our Story: Why Reagan Sanai Essentials Was Born

Reagan Sanai Essentials is a labor of love. My daughter has beautiful hair that is naturally fine and curly. Finding products that worked without irritating her sensitive, eczema-prone skin—or leaving her hair dry and brittle—was an epic struggle. I wasted time and money trying everything.

I leaned on my healthcare background, did the research, and sought out the best natural and organic options to restore moisture while keeping hair manageable. The result was Reagan Sanai Essentials. My goal is to educate, enrich, and empower families to build healthy hair habits for their kids—with safe, natural, effective products.

Healthy Ends, Happy Hair

We trim her ends about twice a year. It keeps her hair strong, prevents breakage, and makes her curls look fresh and full.

Did You Know? Split ends can travel upward and cause more damage. Regular trims keep curls healthier over time.

Wash Day Steps (and Why They Matter)

Step 1: Clarify the Scalp

We start with a clarifying cleanse to remove buildup, sweat, and excess oils so her scalp can breathe.

Did You Know? A clean scalp creates the best environment for healthy growth and helps products absorb better.

Step 2: Cleanse with Moisturizing Black Soap Shampoo

This gently cleanses without stripping her natural oils—perfect for sensitive, eczema-prone scalps.

Step 3: Deep Condition + Hot Oil

We use Avocado & Banana Deep Conditioner with a warm treatment of Nourishing Growth Oil to restore moisture, soften curls, and strengthen strands.

Did You Know? Natural hair is porous and loses moisture quickly—deep conditioning replenishes and helps prevent breakage.

Step 4: Steam for 20 Minutes, Then Rinse

Steam opens the cuticle so the conditioner and oil can really soak in, boosting hydration and softness.

Did You Know? Steam helps fight dryness and frizz—especially helpful for fine, curly strands.

Moisturize & Protect

Step 5: Apply Moisturizing Leave-In Detangler on Soaking Wet Hair

On soaking wet hair, this adds slip for gentle detangling and locks in hydration.

Did You Know? Applying products to soaking wet hair helps seal in the most moisture.

Step 6: Blow Dry in Sections

We gently towel-dry, then blow dry in small sections. It reduces tension, stretching hair safely for easier styling.

Step 7: Seal with Mango Butter Soufflé Whipped Hair & Body Butter (Ends → Roots)

A small amount per section seals in moisture, adds shine, and keeps her hair soft longer.

Did You Know? Layer water/leave-in first, then butter/cream to “lock in” moisture.

Protective Styling & Edge Care

Reagan’s go-to style is braids, which we keep in for no longer than 3–4 weeks to avoid scalp tension. Since she loves styling her baby hairs, we keep edges moisturized and gently massaged to prevent thinning.

Did You Know? Protective styles support length retention—but only if you allow the scalp to rest between installs.

Keep the Style Fresh

Did You Know? Moisture maintenance between wash days means less breakage and more growth.

Why This Works for Our Family

For us, hair care isn’t about perfection—it’s about consistency, patience, and connection. Each step is a chance to bond with Reagan, teach her to love her natural hair, and build healthy habits she’ll carry for life.
