Reagan Sanai's 90 Day Protective Style Challenge

If you caught our previous post, you probably already understand the effects that the soon-to-come cold weather might have on you or your little one’s tresses. We shared seven tips to care for natural hair and sensitive skin. One of those tips was to use protective styles as a means of protecting the ends of the hair and to promote healthy hair. If you aren’t sure of what a protective style is, check out our last post where we tell you all about them.

The Reagan Sanai 90 Day Protective Style Challenge starts on December 1^st and completely free to join. Over the 90-day time period, you will not be manipulating the hair much.The goal is to retain moisture and leave the hair alone so that it may flourish on its own. This challenge is intended to help you combat hair loss (excess shedding), live a low maintenance hair life, to promote healthy hair and hair growth.

Before starting the challenge, there are few things you’ll want to do in order to achieve the best results. 

1. Properly cleanse the hair by using a natural chemical free shampoo with no sulfates or parabens in it such as our Moisturizing Black Soap Shampoo. You don’t want any product build-up in the hair. Co-washing the hair is not enough. We need squeaky clean hair.
2. Apply a protein treatment to the hair (optional). We recommend that you only do a protein treatment on your little one(s) if they are three years of age or older.
3. Clip the ends of the hair. In order for your hair to grow, you must get rid of any dead ends. If you do not, your hair will only continue to split as it grows which will defeat the purpose of joining the challenge.
4. Moisturize the hair thoroughly using the LCO/LOC method  (click here to learn about the LOC/LCO method) before styling the hair. You'll want to especially focus on the ends of the hair. Apply a generous amount of your favorite moisturizing product such as our Aloe Hair Mist and the Shea Butter Souffle to the hair while it is still damp and then proceed to dry the hair.
